ABOUT THE OWNER AND FAM
Catie Cheek
Hey y'all! I'm Catie: a wife, mom, and dog mom. I was born and raised in Ohio, and relocated to North Carolina after grad school. A few years later, I met my husband Jake, a rare Charlottean. We live right between Mount Holly and Belmont and we have 2 children 3 and under, Claire and JJ, 2 dogs, and a tank full of fish.
In addition to spending my days juggling my family and The Play Corner, I'm also a Mary Kay consultant and a pediatric physical therapist primarily in early intervention (birth to 3 years) seeing clients at homes and daycares. I enjoy being active with running and workout classes such as yoga and barre. I also like playing strategy games, reading, and playing piano and flute. Growing up I was a competitive gymnast and had the opportunity to teach gymnastics and tumbling as my first job while in high school. Since then, gymnastics and toddler activities have been staples in a variety of jobs and volunteer activities. I'm so excited to begin this journey and meet all of your families!
ABOUT THE BUSINESS
Our Story
As a first time mom in the early days of a pandemic, my husband Jake was working 50+ hours a week and I was struggling being a stay at home mom. Even though we have family and some friends nearby, it was hard to find local community and support with other moms walking the same journey. Fast forward to Winter 2021, I returned back to work as a physical therapist, Jake left his job to pursue a counseling grad school program, and we found out we were expecting baby #2. Navigating being a working mama, having a toddler at home, and being pregnant was an interesting journey. Through my own experiences with pelvic floor physical therapy (if you don't know anything about this, please ask me!!), I began thinking about venturing beyond pediatrics and into pelvic floor for mamas or offering joint options for mamas and their little ones. After multiple coffee dates with friends while I chased the kids around, I realized our community had another big need: A place for caregivers to enjoy a sweet treat and distraction free adult time (or at least distraction limited) while their children were onsite with safe and fun care. This reawakened a childhood dream, and as I began to meet more and more caregivers feeling a lack of community, I decided to seriously pursue my passion. It's been a journey with many detours, but we can't wait to serve the Gaston County area.
